TUNNELL HILL, Ill. (WSIL) -- A medical emergency occurred during a middle school girls basketball game involving a Galatia Junior High student-athlete at New Simpson Hill School on Tuesday evening.

The Galatia Community Unit School District stated the incident happened at approximately 6:50 p.m. on October 14, when the student experienced a medical emergency on the court. An AED was promptly used by a New Simpson Hill assistant coach, who is also a registered nurse, to stabilize the student.

School officials said the student was stabilized and airlifted to a hospital in St. Louis for further treatment. Her current condition is not yet.
