Mayor LaToya Cantrell may have to cough up thousands of dollars in legal fees to French Quarter resident Anne Breaud, after the Louisiana Supreme Court on Wednesday turned away her appeal of a decision denying her stalking claim against Breaud.

The high court refused to reconsider a ruling that tossed Cantrell's case for a protective order against Breaud over photos of the mayor and her former police officer bodyguard, Jeffrey Vappie, drinking and dining last year on a balcony near Jackson Square.

A state appeals court ruled 2-1 in June that Cantrell’s petition was an attempt to silence Breaud's protected speech. The appeals court upheld a June 2024 decision by Orleans Civil District Court Judge Bernadette D'Souza to toss Cantrell’s stalking claim and award Breaud about $15,400 fo
