The Chinese spy case collapsed a month ago. But it is only in the last couple of weeks that it has made front page news.

It has drawn in the Prime Minister and some of his senior advisors with accusations over how far they went in designating China a security threat.

When it started to pit the Crown Prosecution Service against the government, Sir Keir Starmer – former director of public prosecutions himself – decided to act, saying he would publish evidence.
