GALT, Calif. —
Family, friends, and officers gathered in Galt for a candlelight vigil to honor Officer Raymond Barrantes , who was killed in a crash while on duty earlier this month.
Dozens gathered at a park Tuesday night to pay tribute to Barrantes, who served with the Chowchilla Police Department after a decade with West Sacramento Police.
"He was always about family — and this is what it is right now," said Adan Mendez, Barrantes' childhood friend.
Mendez said Barrantes leaves behind a legacy of service and devotion.
"It was always about serving the community, helping the community, and being a part of it," Mendez said.
Barrantes' career was marked by courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the job.
"A lot of achievements along the way — ones we're all proud of,"
