TROY, Ohio —

Archaeologists say they have found some rare artifacts beneath an Ohio tavern that burned down last December.

They were found under the Overfield Tavern in Troy, Ohio, a two-story log building constructed in 1808, just north of Dayton. Advertisement

Archaeologists found coins dating back to 1817, as well as several prehistoric Native American artifacts.

They also found forks made from animal bones and a hand-painted ceramic that is suspected to be the bottom of a teacup.

"Despite the tragedy of the fire, it really has given us an opportunity to do different types of research and investigations and see part of the site that we never would have seen before,” executive director of the Overfield Tavern Museum Chris Manning said.
