A Cooperstown native, who was in talks to run state Sen. Peter Oberacker's congressional campaign, was involved in a racist group chat with other Young Republicans leaders from across the country, according to reporting from Politico.

Bobby Walker, who was vice chair of the New York State Young Republicans at the time, called rape "epic" in the group chat, Politico reported Tuesday, Oct. 14. He repeatedly used a homophobic slur and made other derogatory comments, as shown in screenshots and quotes from the chat, which was conducted on the messaging service Telegram this year between early January and mid-August.
