IOWA CITY — On the same Tuesday that Iowa women’s basketball coach Jan Jensen told media members that “we’re the youngest we’ve been since 2012,” the men’s team under first-year coach Ben McCollum unveiled new, clean-looking white uniforms.

Indeed, there’s a newness and freshness to both programs which has Hawkeyes fans brimming with excitement.

Think about the dynamics of both programs for a moment, then think about their expectations.

Jensen, in her second year since succeeding 24-year coach and all-time Big Ten Conference wins leader Lisa Bluder, is welcoming a second straight wave of exciting recruits (with more on the way in 2026). Nine of the Hawkeyes’ 14 players are freshmen or sophomores.

“And everybody on our team has a new role,” Jensen added.
