Dr Hazel Wallace and her now husband David Birtwistle first met at a bar in Clapham in September 2021. “Me and my friends were allowed to jump the queue because I gave a girl first aid,” she remembers. “David, who was a friend of a friend, was the first person I bumped into when we walked inside. He sourced my number the next day and asked me on a date that very week. We’ve been together ever since.”
The couple got engaged in Rome in June 2023, outside of the church where Hazel’s parents got married. “It was a huge surprise to me because he’s usually not the most romantic person – by his own admission – but it was the most special and thoughtful thing,” she shares. “He somehow made my late father feel included in our love story, despite them never meeting.”
