A Black and Latino man who says he endured several years of racial insults and slurs from co-workers at the Suffolk County Department of Public Works in Long Island, New York, was physically assaulted by a supervisor and repeatedly turned down for promotions, is suing the county for racial discrimination.
Julio Germain, 40, began working for the county public works department as an auto equipment operator in the highway division in November 2019, according to his lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York on Sept. 24, and obtained by Atlanta Black Star.
By early 2022, his work environment had become hostile and abusive, the complaint says.
