Mark Bonnar, best known for his role as Duncan Hunter in the popular series Shetland, was a staple of the show since its inception.

The 56-year-old actor was a key part of the BBC drama from the start, but he chose to depart at the end of the series seven to pursue other opportunities.

In the sixth series, viewers witnessed Jimmy Perez and Duncan embroiled in a scandal over their involvement in Donna Killick's death.

Donna, who was suffering from cancer, had requested Duncan's assistance in ending her life, a request to which he agreed.

However, this was all part of Donna's revenge plot against Duncan, whom she believed had betrayed her following an affair years prior.
