CARTHAGE, Texas — The Carthage community is preparing for the ninth annual Bulldog Tailgate on Friday an event featuring appearances by former Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl champions Jay Novacek and Tony Casillas, along with Pro Football Hall of Famer and Chicago Bears legend Mike Singletary.

The tailgate will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Carthage Bulldog Stadium parking lot, leading up to the highly anticipated football game between the Carthage Bulldogs and the Athens Hornets. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Local Carthage business owner and 1984 Carthage High School graduate Randy Hudson founded the annual event in 2016 as a tribute to the Bulldogs’ success. The team has claimed 10 state championships, establishing itself as one of the most dominant high school football programs
