YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) - A portion of Mahoning County's sales tax is not set to expire for another year and a half, but officials are working now to get it renewed.
A quarter-penny of that tax amount is used for road and bridge projects. It brings in roughly $10 million a year and has been used to pave roughly 150 miles of road around the county over the last three years.
Even though the tax will continue to bring in funds, Mahoning County Engineer Pat Ginnetti hopes voters can approve its renewal early.
"Because if you waited until '27, the primary's in May, the tax expired in April. There is going to be a gap, and we're trying to minimize that," Ginnetti said. "We think the program's been very successful. We've been able to get almost every road in Green Township, Goshen Township, Sm
