President Donald Trump wrongly blamed “an Alabama judge” for ordering fertility clinics offering in vitro fertilization (IVF) to shut down last year.

During an Oval Office press briefing on Thursday, October 16, the president announced new efforts to expand IVF access nationwide, explaining his swift actions in 2024 to support the procedure. He primarily credited U.S. Sen. Katie Britt, R-Montgomery, who he said personally called him and asked for help after multiple providers across the state abruptly paused IVF treatments.
