TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - University of Arizona President Dr. Suresh Garimella will speak during a special ABOR meeting on Friday afternoon, and the topic of discussion will be the White House’s Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education.

The meeting, scheduled for 4 to 5 p.m., will be an executive session, so the media and public will not be able to watch. ABOR streams its meetings at www.azregents.edu/meetings/abor-live

Arizona was one of nine schools offered the compact by President Donald Trump’s Administration.

Three of the nine -- Penn, Brown, and MIT -- have already rejected the offer.

Some of the benefits mentioned in the compact are access to student loans and federal contracts, research funding, approval of student visas, and preferential tax code treatment.
