While tariffs are shaking manufacturers nationwide, tech entrepreneurs at the Vegas Tech Summit said Thursday that Las Vegas’ innovation sector has largely withstood President Donald Trump’s trade war, thanks to its focus on software and cloud-based products less affected by tariffs.
Teddy Liaw, who founded the summit now in its fourth year, said the burgeoning trade war has had a “huge” impact, especially on those manufacturing a physical product. But the tech industry is “more impervious, more insulated” from Trump’s tariffs, he said.
“How do you tax tariffs on software? How do you tax the tariffs on the cloud?” he said. “Technology is poised to be more resilient.”
That potential stability bolsters one of the main arguments of t
