Canada is rich in rare earth elements, yet does not have a single operating mine — a situation Christine Burow is determined to correct as soon as possible.

Burow is Chief Marketing Officer for Torngat Metals and its proposed Strange Lake mine and processing plant in northern Quebec. The site holds large amounts of dysprosium and terbium, two heavy rare earth elements (REEs) essential for clean technologies and defence. China largely controls the global market for both.

“Our strategy is to provide the rare earths needed to decouple from China,” Burow said in outlining the business and geopolitical case for Strange Lake.

“It gives Canada an opportunity to be at the forefront of the rare earth industry as it evolves and matures over the coming decades.”
