SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Louisiana's primary voting process will change in 2026. In preparation, Governor Jeff Landry announced that the Louisiana Legislature will convene for a special session in late October.
The 2025 First Extraordinary Session will start at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
There are no bills filed as part of the session, and its only agenda item is "To legislate relative to the election code, election dates, election deadlines, and election plans for the 2026 election cycle, and to provide for the funding thereof if necessary."
According to the governor's proclamation, the session should end no later than November 13.
