(CNN)– Nestlé, the world’s largest food company plans to cut roughly 16,000 jobs globally over the next two years to reduce costs.

The majority of the layoffs, roughly 12,000 will impact white-collar professionals.

Nestlé says it’s focusing on what it described as “operational efficiency” to include automating processes and using shared services.

4,000 jobs will be cut in manufacturing and the supply chain to improve productivity.

In total, Nestlé will cut nearly 6% of its workforce.
