ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)--- A New York State Republican lawmaker is hoping his newly introduced bill will ensure on-time New York State budgets.

The New York State Budget is due every year on April 1st, but some years, it goes late by several weeks.

"Under current law, the governor still gets paid during the budget process, even when the budget isn’t enacted on time, which is April 1st. The legislature’s pay gets suspended, post April 1st. Back pay is given once the final budget is enacted," said Senator Bill Weber.

However, Weber’s bill is looking to change that— meaning if the budget is late, the Governor and the Legislature won’t get paid. Even once the budget is enacted, back pay wouldn’t be given.
