Samuel Bird’s body was found in a farmer’s field west of Edmonton in the wee hours Thursday morning, a waning crescent moon casting a dim light over the row of trees that had been his resting place for more than four months.
For Det. Jared Buhler, the veteran homicide detective who led the search for the missing teen, finding Bird’s remains was unlike anything in his 25-year policing career.
“It’s a moment I’ll remember forever,” he told a news conference Friday.
Now, with a suspect in Bird’s murder in custody, Buhler has strong words for the legion of social media detectives who continue to insist people other than Bryan Farrell played a role in the 14-year-old’s disappearance and death — including youth who were Bird’s friends.
