On the Bright Side: Local veteran receives high school diploma at age 84

An 84-year-old local veteran recently received his high school diploma, decades after leaving high school to support his family.

Retired Disabled Veterans’ Outreach Program specialist Bill Haines, from the state Department of Labor, began working with Gilboa resident Arthur Purdy, who left Paul D. Schreiber High School on Long Island and later enlisted in the military at 18, to award him his high school diploma.
