JACKSON COUNTY, Mo. —

One day after being sworn in , interim Jackson County Executive Phil LeVota announced plans for property tax relief.

In a press conference Friday afternoon, county legislators talked about the difficulties local businesses have gone through with high property tax assessments. Advertisement

To start to remedy this, LeVota said he’s putting a 15% cap on commercial property tax increases.

This action comes after local business owners have reported huge spikes in commercial property tax assessments.

The interim executive said the county charter gives him the authority to immediately create this 15% cap. The legislators said they plan to sign the proposal into law on Monday.
