PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Arizona’s Family has learned 274 commercial truck drivers in Arizona have been pulled off the roads since June for failing roadside English proficiency tests.

The removals are part of a Trump administration crackdown on enforcement of federal rules requiring commercial truck drivers to speak English. The U.S. Department of Transportation has been conducting roadside tests to ensure commercial truckers can speak and read basic English.

Under federal rules, commercial truck drivers must be able to speak English. The Washington Post reports that about 6,000 truckers nationwide have been pulled off the road.

The Trump administration pushed for increased enforcement after an undocumented immigrant caused a deadly crash.
