BARDSTOWN, Ky. — Kentucky is reallocating more than $9 million in state dollars to help meet the demand of a senior meals program that has run short on funding.

State Budget Director John Hicks announced Friday in a letter to Republican lawmakers in Frankfort.

It comes as Gov. Andy Beshear has said the state faces a potential $305 million budget deficit.

Senior citizens in Bardstown, Kentucky, have been worried that the free meals they've been counting on every weekday for years may not be as available in the months to come.

Tonda Luckett, who's lived in Bardstown for 25 years, says the state's free meals program, expanded greatly during the pandemic, is a lifeline for so many people she knows.
