BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -Students at Western Kentucky University raised awareness about homelessness by hosting a “sleep out” for those in need Thursday night.

Members of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity gave up their beds for a night to highlight the struggles unhoused people in Bowling Green face daily.

The fraternity’s director of social action and executive director for Hotel Inc. cleared up common misconceptions about homelessness.

“What this is doing is raising awareness for homelessness showing that homeless people are just like us,” said Balayulu Bazira, Phi Beta Sigma’s Director of Social Action. “They just didn’t have as many opportunities as us, or you know, they had a lot of bad things happen in their lives and that they you know are just like you and me and are not less of peopl
