ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Students from across the Midwest are in St. Louis on Friday taking part in flying competitions.

Saint Louis University is hosting the event, which includes schools from several states, at the downtown airport.

This week’s competition mixed a variety of aviation skills, from landing to navigation to computer accuracy.

Friday’s event involved dropping a small container from an aircraft, 200 feet above the ground, trying to get it as close to the target as possible

This regional competition serves as a qualifier for nationals in May.

SLU usually does pretty well with one of their students getting first place at nationals last year, dropping his container, nine feet from the target
