Three AC coaches of the Garib Rath Express, travelling from Amritsar to Saharsa in Bihar, caught fire near Sirhind railway station here on Saturday morning, officials said.

There was no casualty in the incident, they said.

The fire broke out around 7:30 am when the train (number 12204) was coming from Amritsar.

Civil and police authorities promptly arrived at the scene. Fire tenders and ambulances were rushed to the spot, and after a prolonged effort, the fire was brought under control.

Officials said that upon noticing smoke in one of the AC coaches, passengers were safely evacuated and relocated to other coaches.

The affected coaches were then detached from the train to prevent further damage.
