Dhanteras is the first day of the five-day Diwali festival and is very important in India. The word “Dhan” means wealth, and “Teras” means the thirteenth day, so it is a day to celebrate health, prosperity, and good luck. On Dhanteras, people clean and decorate their homes, buy gold, silver, or new utensils, and offer prayers. These actions are believed to bring wealth, positivity, and blessings from Goddess Lakshmi , the goddess of wealth, and Lord Dhanvantari, the god of health. Homes are decorated with diyas (lamps), colourful rangolis are made at the entrance, and families come together to pray, exchange gifts, and celebrate. The day is all about welcoming happiness, abundance, and good energy into the home. Dhanteras 2025: Date and Tithi Timing According to a report
