TV star Chris McCausland 's victory on last year's Strictly Come Dancing came despite several challenges – but not all of them were down to the Liverpool-born comedian's retinitis pigmentosa, which caused him to lose his sight almost completely in his early twenties.

In fact, he says, even if he still had his sight, he might have lost it anyway during rehearsals for the show. While Chris and professional dance partner Dianne Buswell were working on their samba for Halloween Week, the Australian professional dancer, who is pregnant with her first baby with boyfriend Joe Sugg , kicked back a little too far.

Chris recalls that the dancer "caught me so hard in the face that I almost threw up and had to lie down for twenty minutes to recover".
