Sounds of gunfire and grenade blasts shattered the calm of Kakopathar in Assam's Tinsukia district late night on Thursday, Oct 16, causing panic among residents.
Preliminary reports indicated that grenades were hurled at the Indian Army's 19 Grenadiers unit camp around midnight, reported News18.
The exchange of fire reportedly lasted for nearly an hour in the vicinity of the Kakopathar Army Camp.
Security officials confirmed that three Army personnel sustained injuries in the explosion.
"Around 12.30 am, unidentified terrorists fired at the Kakopathar Company location from a moving vehicle. The troops on duty retaliated immediately and effectively took caution to avoid collateral damage to civilian houses in the vicinity," the Army official was quoted as saying.
