Students at UPEI say they are already noticing the impact of federal policies that have limited international study permits, with noticeably smaller and less diverse classrooms this semester.

The Association of Atlantic Universities (AAU), which represents post-secondary institutions across the region, has released its preliminary survey of enrolments for 2025.

The report shows 14.2 per cent drop in international enrolments at the P.E.I. university this year. The trend has been a decline over the last two years, with international enrolment falling from 1,995 in 2023 to 1,852 enrolments in 2024 and down to 1,589 enrolments in 2025.
