DES MOINES, Iowa —

Des Moines police say they are investigating two shootings that happened overnight in less than two hours.

Authorities say the first shooting happened in the 1300 block of Seventh Street around 11 p.m. Officers responded to a party happening at a nearby home. They say witnesses reported gunfire and saw people running.

Des Moines Police Department officers found an injured 16-year-old. He was transported to MercyOne Medical Center and is expected to recover.

Officers also found over a dozen shell casings, two vehicles that had been hit and a rifle nearby.

A second shooting was reported around 1 a.m. in the 900 block of Second Avenue near Lauridsen Skate Park.
