Former India cricketer and chief selector of the senior men’s cricket team, Ajit Agarkar, has reiterated that Mohammed Shami wasn’t fit enough to feature in the recent England series and hence missed the cut, although he didn’t mention the reason for the latter’s absence from the upcoming Australia ODI series.

Shami’s last appearance on the international stage was the final of the Champions Trophy, after which he played nine matches of IPL 2025 before being ruled out of the tournament with an injury.

Shami stayed away from action for three months before playing for East Zone against the North Zone in the Duleep Trophy, picking just one wicket across 34 overs. While one expected him to be on the flight to Australia for the ODI series, he wasn’t named in the squad
