Prince Andrew's decision to give up his titles may have been quietly orchestrated by members of his own family

When Prince Andrew sat down to give that fateful BBC interview in 2019, it is unlikely he imagined that six years later he would be giving up the royal titles and honours he had clung to for most of his life.

In his infamous sit-down with Newsnight's Emily Maitlis in 2019, the prince denied allegations he had sex with Jeffrey Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre, alleging he was out getting pizza with his daughter and was unable to sweat and so did not fit the description she gave.

But far from clearing things up, the chat — described as the " Rolls-Royce of car-crash interviews " — caused irreparable damage to the British monarchy.

Prince Andrew — and those around him — have been back-pedalling ever since.

The senior royal stepped back from public duties and later returned his military
