A smile for many is a normal action, done without thought, but for others, it can be the most uncomfortable part of their day.

D-DENT, it stands for Dentist for the Disabled and Elderly in Need of Treatment. They are an Oklahoma nonprofit helping veterans, the disabled and the elderly receive dental treatment.

“They talk like this. They don’t smile like you and I do. And when they have their dental work done, they can’t stop smiling,” said Karen Chadwell, retiring Executive Director of D-Dent.

And for almost 40 years, D-Dent has been the source of those smiles for almost twenty thousand people.

“It’s pretty much based on low income, and un-insurability, and whether you’re sixty plus or you’re a veteran, or you have developmental disabilities,” said Chadwell.
