EVANSVILLE — Throngs of demonstrators began to crowd sidewalks near the federal building in Downtown Evansville on Saturday even before a planned "No Kings" protest against President Donald Trump's administration was scheduled to begin.

By 1:30 p.m., about a half-hour after the planned start time, sign-carrying protesters packed both sides of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard as many chanted and directed criticism – and insults – at the president.

The protest in Evansville is one of more than 2,500 such demonstrations planned for Saturday nationwide under the "No Kings" banner — a slogan organizers said highlights what they view as attempts by Trump and his allies to concentrate unprecedented power in the executive branch.
