The latest entry in the Pokémon franchise, Pokémon Legends: Z-A , is one of the most ambitious entries in the long-running series to date. It is the first game, excluding spin-offs, to revamp the combat system to be more in line with what the turn-based battles had always implied fights looked like.

This reimagined battle system, alongside a host of other systems that gave me a deep connection with my Pokémon squad that I hadn't felt in generations, nearly made Z-A the game I have been waiting for since Blue and Red. However, it is missing one core ingredient that I consider to be the true soul of Pokémon titles by limiting itself to the large Lumiose City .
