When Elisha Banks first started Music for the Mind in 2019, she envisioned a one-off event to raise money and awareness for mental health in Chatham-Kent.

Never did she imagine it would surpass the quarter of a million-dollar milestone — and still counting — only six short years later.

“It definitely wasn’t on my bingo card,” Banks, of Chatham, said with a laugh on Saturday. “But I am thrilled. I am excited. I am honoured that the community has chosen to stand behind Music for the Mind.

“Surreal is the perfect word … to articulate that feeling, when I was finally seeing that number.”

Initially organized as a fundraising concert, which is still a key component, Music for the Mind also blossomed into multiple events that take place throughout the year.
