NEW BEDFORD — The crowd at New Bedford’s second "No Kings" protest was more than twice the size of the first one four months ago.
And passing motorists chimed in with sustained honking in support at a far greater rate – more seemed to beep than not to beep – as they drove by the protesters who lined up along Rockdale Avenue in front of Buttonwood Park.
But like the first protest held at Hazelwood Park , which drew at least 400 people on a rainy Saturday on June 14, there was a celebratory feeling.
Sharing smiles and hugs
Though their concerns were serious, there were many smiles, cheers and hugs shared among the participants, estimated at over 1,000.
