KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WHNT) — According to a report from The Athletic, Tennessee baseball coach Tony Vitello is 'closing in' on becoming the manager for the San Francisco Giants.
This comes after much speculation, as Vitello was rumored to be a candidate for the SF Giants manager job in late September.
The jump from college baseball coach straight to major-league manager is something nearly unheard of.
Vitello started his role as Tennessee baseball coach in 2018, making it his first college head coaching job.
He would later lead the Vols to victory in their first-ever College World Series in 2024.
