MOUNT PLEASANT – It was a rare opportunity to play inside a college football stadium .

On Saturday afternoon, Oct. 18, the Cheboygan Chiefs and Fowlerville Gladiators battled at Central Michigan University’s Kelly/Shorts Stadium.

It ended up being a much better day for the Gladiators, who used several big plays to build a commanding lead and cruise to a 34-12 victory over the Chiefs.

Here’s some takeaways from Saturday’s matchup.

Slow start dooms Cheboygan

For the Chiefs (3-5), they had a chance to make a statement right off the bat. However, their offense immediately went 3-and-out against the Gladiators (4-4), who struck first when junior Erik Helminen broke loose for a 71-yard TD run, followed by a successful Fowlerville PAT that made it a 7-0 advantage.
