An investigation was underway Saturday into the shooting death of a man in Hawthorne.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the shooting was reported at 3:18 p.m. Friday at West 118th Street and Prairie Avenue. LASD homicide detectives were assisting Hawthorne police with the investigation.

The victim, 32-year-old Armando Lara, died at the scene of a gunshot wound of the chest from a homicide, said the Medical Examiner’s office. Lara’s city of residence was not disclosed.

There was no suspect information immediately available.
