BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Recipients of LIHEAP or the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program are eligible to receive cold weather gear.

North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services will organize the giveaway next week in eight cities throughout the state. This event started last year since a warmer winter freed up funds for the giveaway. Coats mittens hats and socks will be available.

“This is a little bit more of an incentive to apply for the program, and it helps people stay warm, so it’s kind of a win-win all around,” said Rachel Schafer, director in Program Administration for the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services.
