NEW YORK (PIX11) — Former Congressman George Santos is speaking out for the first time after President Donald Trump commuted his criminal sentence.

In a long post on X, Santos thanked the president for a second chance at life, adding that he’s back as a new man, ready to work and do good.

News of his prison sentence being commuted is sparking strong reactions among constituents in New York's congressional district three, where he once represented. The reactions follow Friday’s announcement from the president about Santos’ release. He was serving more than seven years in federal prison after pleading guilty to fraud and identity theft charges.
