ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) -Hundreds gathered on Saturday for a public memorial to honor the life and legacy of William Lacy Clay Sr.

The memorial service was held at the University of Missouri – St. Louis campus Performing Arts Center.

The former congressman died in July at the age of 94.

Clay Sr. was the first African American to represent Missouri in Congress.

He served in the House of Representatives for over three decades and was a noted civil rights leader.
