City police arrested eight persons on Saturday allegedly involved in operating a racket producing fake vehicle number plates, after making a breakthrough in the case with the arrest of a man who was reportedly riding a scooter with a fake number plate at Kasba on Thursday.
The incident came to light when a traffic sergeant on duty at Kasba detained a scooter for allegedly violating traffic rules. During verification of the vehicle’s documents, it was discovered that the scooter’s number plate was fake, as another vehicle bearing the same registration number was traced. According to Lalbazar sources, the legitimate owner of that vehicle had already lodged a complaint, stating that his vehicle had no connection with the Kasba incident and that he was not present at the location at the time.
