As President Donald Trump continues to target Democrat-led cities across the country, the next Pittsburgh mayor will have to navigate not only local challenges, but face federal scrutiny, too.

In recent months, Trump has sent the National Guard to several large cities, including Chicago, Los Angeles and Portland, and threatened to cut funding to cities that label themselves as sanctuary cities. Most recently, Trump has used the government shutdown to cut millions from green energy projects in states that voted for Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.
