A 41-year-old Indian man was arrested in Bangkok’s Siam Square on Monday afternoon after allegedly threatening members of the public with a pistol-shaped lighter, causing panic and a swift police response.

The incident occurred around 4 pm in front of the Novotel Bangkok hotel on Siam Square Soi 6 in the Pathum Wan district. Police arrived at the scene after receiving reports of a man acting erratically and brandishing what appeared to be a firearm.

The suspect, later identified as Sahil Ram Thadani, was seen in video footage walking around the busy area, making loud noises and pointing a gun-like object at bystanders.

Witnesses and passersby fled in fear, prompting nearby security personnel to intervene while waiting for police backup.
