In the predawn cool as autumn begins, the Detroit RiverWalk is almost private. The river, smooth on a windless morning, sparkles from the city lights on either side. The strand of white lights atop the Ambassador Bridge frames the western horizon, with the just-lit Gordie Howe Bridge outline softer in the distance.

It's perfect.

In the song “ Summer, Highland Falls ,” Billy Joel wrote, "I believe there is a time for meditation in cathedrals of our own."

This is one of mine.
