This past week of Iowa high school sports was packed with conference tournaments in volleyball and conference races in cross country.

Week 8 of the Iowa high school football season was also busy as most Iowa City-area teams entered the final weeks of the regular season.

Here are the nominees for the Iowa City Press-Citizen's high school Athletes of the Week for Oct. 13-19. Press-Citizen.com readers vote to decide this week's winners. Voting closes at 8 p.m. on Thursday.

Girls

Abigail Burns, Sr., Iowa City High

Burns placed second individually and helped the City High girls cross country team become MVC Valley Division Champions on Oct. 16.

Burns finished the 5-kilometer race with a time of 18:26.2.
